If you are looking to ring in 2020 with a healthier you insight, then look no further than these 13 New Year’s resolutions to get healthier. I do mean really, really healthy!
So you are looking to really nail those health goals in 2020, and who could blame you we all just want to feel good, or rather great, right?
Everyone and I do mean just about everyone has New Year’s resolutions to get or be healthier in one way or another.
The typical New Years’ goal list or resolution looks something like this…
New Years Goals:
- get gym membership
- eat raw food/ keto/ or vegan diet…
- lose weight
- get back into my old clothes again
- feel great about my body
That’s all fine and great but can we be honest for a minute here?
Isn’t there way more to being healthy than hitting the gym 5 days a week, and fitting into those old skinny jeans?
There so much more to fueling our bodies and looking amazing than just sticking to some “diet”?
Doesn’t health and wellness and how good we really feel go so much further than a number on a scale?
New Year’s resolutions to get healthier
Ok so before we sit down this year to plan out our New Year’s resolution to get healthier, lose weight, start a diet….Lets instead talk about some killer ways to get really, and I mean get really really healthy, feel great and take this New Year to a new high!

1. Start a Gratitude practice
Science is starting to show us how this thing Grandma always said we should do is actually the key to happiness, heart health and so much more!
Starting a habit of taking time, before bed is best, to reflect on all those things you are grateful for. Try it tonight or even right now and start listing all the things you are appreciative of from having running water to how your favorite flower looks. List everything from the mundane things that make life easier like that dishwasher to silly things like cloud shapes and water fights.
Do this for 5 minutes and see how you feel, I bet you feel 100X better than before.
2. Mend your gut
Gut health is at the foundation of so many health issues from weight gain to depression, learning disabilities to candida overgrowth.
Gut health was not something that people ever really had to think about in human history it happened by nature itself. Food was usually preserved in fermented ways, food wasn’t grown with a chemical antibiotic in the soil, and large amounts of pharmaceuticals weren’t in the drinking water as they are now. But nowadays we have to make a habit of making sure we get gut-loving stuff in our bodies every day.
May I suggest trying living food over probiotics in a bottle, think kombucha, kefir, sauerkraut or even (my favorite) kvass.
3. Mind your EMF exposure
With the advantages of technology also come some drawbacks, and those drawbacks can have serious negative side effects. With the whole world switching over from 4G to 5G on cell phones we will have more exposure than ever before to electromagnetic frequencies. Imagine those frequencies right next to our heads as we sleep or in that pocket 95% of the day. All that long term low (but growing) level of exposure can and will wreak havoc on our health.
EMF exposure symptoms:
- sleeping problems
- frequent headaches
- nausea
- fatigue
- depression
- restlessness
- cancers
- asthma
- tumors
- DNA damage
- irritability
- lack of focus
- and many more…
If technology has to be part of your life as it does for most of us, consider offsetting that exposure with a good EMF shield like this one from Aires Tech.

4. Meditate daily
Not that I have anything against apples I do not, I, in fact, love them. However, I believe the saying should be a meditation a day keeps the doctor away. Meditation is an ancient secret to modern problems. When we feel scattered brained, unfocused, upset, nervous, anxious, or stressed those emotions can the fertile ground to breed health problems. Luckily the solutions are just as easy to come by.
The practice of meditation:
- reduce PMS symptoms by 57%
- reduce insomnia 75% of the time
- relieve anxiety in 60% of people
- reduce the risk of being hospitalized for coronary disease by 87%
not that I need to say it, but those are impressive statistics. And yes maybe meditation won’t give you that beach-ready body, but it can help keep emotions in check. Maybe curb emotional eating and increase mind-body awareness, while keeping all those mental health facilities working top notch.
5. Plan for happiness
I can not overstate how much I use and swear by the Law of Attraction, and in learning to use this in my everyday life I started using the Law of Attraction Planner. Planning for goals while still focusing on happiness and feeling good along the journey has been such a game-changer for me.
Happiness all to often gets postponed for the someday. Tell me if this sounds familiar… “ill be happy when, I reach this goal/deadline/get married/have kids/ lose the weight, etc”.
Postponing happiness only ever insures that happiness is going to be out there, in the future. Planning and living in the now with goals and aspirations right there along with happiness, not only leads to quicker results but to living in a great emotional state.
The exact tool I have used to teach me to keep both happiness and goals in check and marching forward with me is the Law of Attraction Planner
6. Have a morning Ritual
The most successful people in any arena in life tend to have one thing in common, they have a morning ritual. In case you are not sure what I am talking about, some people may call this a morning routine, but it can be so much more than that.
A morning ritual is a set practice they do day in and day out. A set of habits and behaviors that set you up for a day of success. These are practices that are more than routine (and routine being boring) but these are rituals and of utmost importance.
A morning ritual is a great time for things like:
- gratitude journaling
- meditating
- yoga/ run/ workout etc
- personal growth reading
Basically, a morning ritual is something you would love and even want to incorperate into your life but cant always find the time. You know those tasks that will take you from surviving to thriving. That is what a morning ritual does, makes you thrive!
7. Ditch the chemically grown foods
I personally have a vendetta against chemically grown food, being this has highly impacted my family. I cant wait to see the day where natural and organic is the norm once again!
Think of the chemicals that is used to grow many foods today as make up. Basically, make up (synthetic fertalizer) is used to cover all the imperfections. What is underneath all that make up is what matters. For modern agriculture, our food crops the faster/ bigger growth is faster/ bigger income earned. But the cost is that the nutrients are far far less than what they should be, leaving our bodies always hungry on a nutritial level.
When we go shopping for an apple we see a pretty apple must be a great apple right? if it was grown conventionally it likely has just a fraction of the nutrients that that same apple had in the 1950’s. What does this mean? We eat more to get less nutrients than ever before in history.
You can do yourself now and yourself in the future by side stepping the conventionally grown foods and heading to the organic, or even better yet commit to grow more of them yourself!

8. Avoid synthetic vitamins
Just like the plants don’t actually thrive on synthetic nutrients, they only appear to. Likewise, you and I don’t actually thrive on synthetic nutrients either.
If you have never read the book Dirty Genes by Dr. Ben Lynch, I recommend it. He talks about how many different genetic mutations (that most of us have) leaves people unable to covert synthetic nutrients to a bioavailable one. For example, many people of European descent can not convert folic acid to folate, meaning that many women who are pregnant are not giving their unborn children really good nutrition, given the fact, almost all prenatal vitamins only sell you folic acid (the synthetic) and not folate (the actual) nutrient. That is only talking about folic acid in pregnant women. Imagine the people who can convert synthetic B-vitamins or D or K. Now we start to have lots of health problems.
I have tested out and tried lots and I do mean lots of vitamins and if you are looking for the very best one that is real, not synthetic extremely thorough and guaranteed to NOT be a waste of money, look no further than Mother Earth Labs.
9. Turn the shower to cold
I can promise you this is about my least favorite thing to put in this, but I am because it is a tried and true practice to exceptional health. I am a lover of all things warmness like hot tea, baths, and July in general. However, in all my warm loving ways it is actually cold therapy that is showing amazing progress in things like longevity, immune response, metabolism-boosting, hormone balance and strengthening the endocrine system.
Basically, you want a super easy New Year’s resolutions to get healthier then just turn your shower to cold for just a few minutes at the end. If you are like me this may be the longest few minutes of your day but also so worth it in the long run.
10. Ground yourself
Yes, I did say ground yourself. I mean literally make yourself in contact with the ground. It may sound crazy but our ancestors knew it, and now science can show us why properly grounding our bodies can help heal all sorts of ailments.
Dr. Briffa gives us a good look at what exactly is happening when we “ground”
During the normal processes of metabolism the body generates what are called ‘reactive oxygen species’ which are commonly referred to as ‘free radicals’. These compounds appear to be important, at least in part because they have the ability to attack and destroy unwanted things within the body including bacteria and viruses. However, too many free radicals are a bad thing, and have been implicated in chronic disease and well as the very process of ageing.
Free radicals are involved in the process known as inflammation, which is part of the healing process. However, low-grade inflammation throughout the body may lead to pain and other problems in the muscles and joints, and is also believed to be a key driving factor in many chronic diseases including heart disease and type 2 diabetes. In short, we want free radicals, but not too many.
Free radicals lack sparks of energy known as ‘electrons’. One way to quell them is to give them electrons, and these can be supplied by nutrients such as vitamins A, C and E, and plant substances known as ‘polyphenols’ (found in, among other things, tea, coffee, cocoa and apples). However, substances we eat and drink are not the only way to get electrons into the body: earthing does this too. If the body has a positive charge on it, earthing allows electrons to flow into the body where, in theory, they can neutralise overblown free radical and inflammatory damage.
Carrying a positive charge may well affect the body in lots of different ways, which means that earthing may offer a range of wellbeing benefits.
Easy ways to practice grounding:
- make a habit of spending 20-30 minutes a day to walk/ sit on the earth barefoot
- start or spend more time gardening
- use grounding aids (like sleep mats, sheets or blankets) to give you the grounding benefits while indoors
11. Make Self-Care a priority
If you are a parent, business owner, student or really one who stays pretty busy, you may tend to put off self-care. I get it, truth me. I am so busy I’ll do that stuff when… but years may go by waiting for when to happen.
Make one of your New Year’s resolutions to get healthier decide to put attention into self-care. Maybe that means less binge watching shows on the weekend, or making yourself shut down a half-hour earlier but in the end, your health, and peace of mind will thank you for making YOU a priority instead of just prioritizing everything else in front of yourself.
“Self-care is not selfish. You cannot serve from an empty vessel.”

12. Move for you
A little more than a decade ago now I was a new mom in a new town, unhappy with my body and unsure how to bounce back from a c-section. I had some semi-acquaintances invite me to a mommy kickboxing class, and I was eager to go. What I soon learned that it was not right for me, but I kept going because it was the “thing” everyone was doing.
What I was doing was mistreating my body. I was not moving my body in a way that was helpful to my growth or recovery, I was going with the crowd. If I could go back an tell myself something I would say then what I say to you, do what’s right for YOU.
So this year when thinking on your New Year’s resolutions to get healthier and you get an itch to start that CrossFit class your neighbor has started or to jump into the spinning class your sister is taking ask yourself “is this right for me?” if it is something you really feel pulled to then do it, if not then don’t.
Just move for your body, and while we are at it the same goes for any other diet, health practice. Nothing is for everyone (except maybe water and air, see number 13).
13. Breath work
Honestly, I thought this was so silly. Like we all breathe all day long don’t we? How could breathwork do anything? That was until my husband got all hyped up over a guy named Wim Hoff who taught breath work to thousands and has a record for transforming lives.
The impacts of good breathwork include improved sleeping, vastly improved immune response, pain management, nervous system balancing, and improved blood detoxification.
Everyone (or just about) has New Year’s resolutions to get healthier, but let’s be honest not everyone is willing to get to the root of real health. Too many people are buying into what some new diet, company or gym is selling. You and I understand true health with lasting results goes far beyond these things. Real health is much more than some new re-invented south beach diet. Likewise, the results of finding real, life-changing health is so much deeper and richer than anything that the next keto-promoting company can come up with.
If you wanted some cheap knockoff version of health that works temporarily while still feeling like the same ol’ person you could set New Year’s goals like everyone else. Not you though, you are looking for robust, life-to-the-fullest, busting-at-the-seams, overflowing health sorta life, and between you and me… That’s the only way to any New Year’s resolutions to get healthier. Cheers ♡♡♡
