Are you into the trend of Cloth diapering? Cute prints, fluffy little bottoms, better for your wallet and the environment! What’s not to love right?! This easy and healthy DIY cloth diaper wipe solution will have you looking differently at how you clean a dirty little bottom.
While it is better for the environment and your wallet to commit to cloth diapering your little one, learning to navigate the ins and outs of cloth diapering can seem overwhelming! First you buy the diapers, covers, inserts, snappi, wipes, wet bags, liners, wipe spray solution… ugh. You start to question the ability to save money with this cloth diapering bit.
I admit it was overwhelming at first, I eventually learned all the fine tuning to suitable cloth diapering situation. While I did cloth diaper all of my children to a certain extent the last the three have been fully cloth diapered. I learned that keeping already wet wipes was difficult, especially when trying to be anywhere but at home! I became set on using dry cloth wipes and using a spray solution to clean dirty little bottoms.
There are many bottom sprays on the market that work great. However learning to make your own will help save money and reduce waste. For fraction of the cost you could make an amazing, healing, customizable spray that could change if the need arose. After I figured this out I never bought those little $10 bottles again.
What you need:
- filtered water
- baby wash or liquid castile soap
- oil (olive oil, sweet almond oil or grapeseed oil all work great)
- essential oils *(optional but very helpful for healing diaper issues)
- witch hazel *(optional but also helpful at healing and protecting)
- spray bottle and or storage bottle
Shea Moisture Baby Nighttime Soothing Shampoo Bath Milk
Lavender 100% Pure Therapeutic Grade Essential Oil by Edens Garden- 5 ml
Frankincense – 100% Pure, Best Therapeutic Grade Essential Oil – 10 ml
Thyme – (Premium) 100% Pure, Best Therapeutic Grade Essential Oil – 10ml
Humphrey’s Organic Witch Hazel Astringent, 16 Ounce
The cool thing about this recipe is you can just use what you have. Whatever baby wash you have or love works and there are many great ones out there. Most likely you also have a healthy oil like olive oil in the house, use that!
I almost always have essential oils on hand. There are many great essential oil brands out there, I tend to use these two brands (Edens Garden and Healing Solutions) but go check them out there are tons!
Frankincense and lavender are go-to for just about everything ever. Thyme is great for a wipe solution due to the fact it can keep yeast based diaper rashes away (they are no fun). Tea tree oil is another great one to put in here. If you have a very sensitive skin little one you may want to add chamomile and take out the harsher oils. This is where you can customize it to the needs you have!
Mix it all up, add it to your spray bottle. Store the extra. Make, use, love, repeat!

Cloth diapering your little one can be fun, buying cute prints can be addictive (like shoe shopping for moms). Why spend more than you need on the not fun stuff like wipe solution or bum sprays? Heck save that for the next diaper right! So save the wallet and use a healthy, healing, and made-by-you spray on that little bottom♡♡♡
