There is nothing better than cold garden-fresh fruit on a summers day. I think envisioning my kids eating homegrown melons with juice dripping down their faces was the motivation I needed to learn to garden and grow our own food! You know what though kids are still kids and they get super excited over things like popsicles. What better way to use those melons coming out of the garden than for a delicious frozen treat like homemade cantaloupe popsicles.
Yes, kids love things like popsicles but we moms don’t always like things like artificial colors, flavors, and refined sugar. That’s why this health wise mom is always looking for ways to replace less desirable ingredients with nutrient-packed foods.
Summertime is great for some garden fresh fruit. If you are anything like me and tend to get a little overzealous during planting time and find yourself planting 10 melon plants where one or two would do just fine. Then you have wheelbarrows full of melons coming out of the garden.

Cantaloupe popsicle recipe
You will need
- 1 medium cantaloupe
- Juice of 1 large lemon
- 1/2 honey, maple syrup or agave all work fine
- water
- popsicle molds (stainless steel popsicles molds work best and will last longer)
- popsicle sticks
Cut open your delicious garden fresh cantaloupe. Removes seeds and rinds. Cut into cubes that your blender or food processor can handle frozen. Then freeze those pieces for 30 minutes to one hour. All you just want lightly frozen pieces to get the right consistency.
After your cantaloupe pieces have frozen throw all the ingredients in the blender or food processor. Blend water, sweetener of choice, lemon juice and cantaloupe together until smooth.
Pour into popsicles molds. I personally like the stainless steel ones they make better popsicles, last longer and of course, doesn’t have harmful plastic BPA’s in them. Put your popsicles sticks in, and let those freeze completely. A small to medium cantaloupe will fill a dozen or more popsicle molds.
