If you are tired of eczema symptoms and looking at how to get rid of eczema naturally. Tired of trying never-ending amounts of lotions and creams but still need a safe and gentle way to beat it then read how we beat and you can too.
Eczema… One of those dreaded words. Somewhere like 20% of kids today suffer from that dreaded word.
Twenty percent is a pretty big chunk of kids. That is a number that has nearly doubled in the last 20 years, and it’s really no wonder. Kids today face more vaccines, preservatives, additives, artificial colors, chemically raised and genetically modified foods and all-around synthetic ingredients than any other generation ever.
So the rising number of eczema among many other illnesses is not surprising, but what really can we do about it? Would you believe me if I said you can learn how to get rid of eczema naturally? And it’s not even hard or complicated?

Living with eczema
My daughter is the kind of kid who had a classic case of eczema. You know the kid who has super sensitive skin, or so it seemed. If anyone with a strong perfume would hold her as a baby her skin would turn red, and soon dry out and look very irritated. Lotions always seemed to make things worse. Then, of course, all the kid “fun” shampoo’s or body washes were off-limits with the excessive fragrances. then there was the food aspect, sugar, preservatives, artificial colors, and overall junk food would cause her skin to get worse.
It can be tough to be the mom who is trying to tell everyone please don’t give that ‘fill in the blank’, to my kid. It’s really hard on her. I usually get a roll of the eyes from extended family, like I made up the fact her skin was in such bad condition.
For many people reducing or eliminating gluten, dairy, nuts, eggs or other allergy-prone foods can help. However, it can be difficult to monitor all of those items everywhere they go. The truth is our skin is like the dash-board on our car, it gives us signals when something is going wrong. When our skin is acting up that is a clue that something internally is off.
In the process to look for a solution and how to get rid of eczema naturally I decided to start with gentle detoxing. A simple solution that is suitable for young children I began to try activated charcoal. More specifically charcoal baths, black baths, we call them.
It may sound crazy, but it works!
Activated Charcoal
Activated Charcoal is nothing new in fact it has been in use for eons. Charcoal like this is known to have been used to treat or filter water for at least 2000 years. More recently it became the filtration for gas masks, cab filters in commercial sprayers (the big machines they use to spray agriculture crops with nasty chemicals). Activated charcoal is also the magic ingredient in the healing properties of African black soap! Activated charcoal has many health uses and is even used in hospitals to pull drugs out of someone who has overdosed.
I won’t attempt to give you all the science, Instead, I will just try to highlight the important facts. On microscopic level activated charcoal has tons of surface area, and it bonds extremely well with chemical compounds. This includes all sorts of chemicals or pharmaceuticals. This makes it a master for efficient filtration. So smells, drugs, chemicals, stains on teeth you name it, activated charcoal can wipe it out.
Benefits of detoxing with activated charcoal
With such an extensive history we know quite a lot about activated charcoal, so we also know the many ways it can benefit us. One of those ways it detoxing our bodies, it attaches just as well to chemicals and drugs inside the body as it does out. Here are a few reasons to love activated charcoal
- Safe for everyone including pregnant or nursing women and children
- Cheap
- Easy to find a quality activated charcoal
- There is no harm in using too much
- No real negative side (if taken internally constipation can be an issue if a lot is taken)
On a little side note here you want to make sure it is activated charcoal other forms like grilling charcoal has stuff in it that you just don’t want. Amazon has some great options in both powder form or pills or capsule.

There are many ways to do a detox bath but in this post, we are talking about charcoal detox or a black bath detox.
Now it can be a little messy and it will leave a black ring around your tub, but no worries it doesn’t stain a tub. In fact, you may notice that once you clean the tub once you may notice it’s cleaner than it was before! That is due to the ability charcoal has to bind to things, bonus!
Unlike other detox baths an activated charcoal bath you don’t want to add anything like essential oils or bath salts, as the charcoal will bind to them and make them useless. All you want to do is add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of activated charcoal to the bathwater while it is filling. Once it is fully mixed in soak in the bath for 15+ minutes. At the end of the soaking bath, you will have to drain the water and refill the bath to wash off any activated charcoal residue.
Repeat as often as desired.
We did 2-3 baths a week. We found that after a week the, always persistent, signs of eczema started to fade. After a month of black baths regularly, all signs of eczema were gone. We continue to do black detox baths once a month or even less, and no signs of eczema have ever returned, which includes being around normal irritants (because grandma with never stop wearing copious amounts of perfume).

Go Bath… more specifically do a detox bath.
It couldn’t be any simpler, could it?
I mean if a bath were to cure everything I certainly would never complain!
In this case, a bath is the cure, or at very least will help reduce signs and severity of eczema by a whole lot. Remember your skin is your biggest organ so this method is like working from the outside in. It can help people to different degrees. So it may work slowly, or there may be a lot of toxins involved.
However this much I can promise it helps everyone to a large extent, eczema or no eczema we all have toxins and less of those is always better.
Eczema is no fun. So if creams or topical steroids are not the answer you are looking for. If trying to manage everything your eczema suffering little one is touches or eats is difficult, try a black bath! They will love it, and there are zero negative side effects. With a black bath, you can take healing your child’s eczema into your own hands. So go detox the problems away

Thank you for this info. I’m 63 and just STARTED HAVING BREAK OUTS OF WEEPING BLISTERS IN THIS LAST YEAR. I USED A STEROID CREAM ONCE AND DO NOT WANT TO EVER USE ONE AGAIN! YOU HAVE GIVEN ME HOPE!
I am glad you have found hope in something. I want to say there is always hope, always keep researching. and detox, detox, detox (skin issues are always a sign something more is going on inside, usually the detoxing organs).
Hi beth
I recently started doing the charcoal baths for my daughter and i just wanted to ask, did it ever seem like the eczema was getting worse before it got better?
Eczema sure can be tricky. For us, it was a slow gradual process. Flare-ups would come and then get better and then each time would be a little better than the last. I hope that helps!

I have horrible weeping eCzema. Was yours more along the line of dry skin? Nervous to soak in anything but willing to try anything.
MariJo,
I am sorry to hear about your condition. And yes in our situation it was more along the line of the very dry cracking skin kind of eczema. Eczema, as most skin conditions, is a signal that something else is going on deeper. That something is often part of or made worse by toxins. So any time you can get more toxins out the better your body can handle what is going on. Keeping in mind I am not a doctor, (but a natural health promoter). I would recommend trying to soak only parts of your skin instead of a whole bath. For example, many toxins are known to be easily pulled from the feet. If your eczema is not as bad on your feet try soaking your feet in charcoal foot soaks regularly. And as things progress and improve just step it up a bit at a time. Also, look for naturally healthy ways to detox internally. Lots of greens, beet kvass(known as a blood cleanser purifier and helps detox the liver) and even herbal detoxes found at a health food store could really help to pull the toxins out. The world we live in is filled with toxins, and it is only getting worse. Everyone’s body deals with toxins differently. Some of us can more easily detox and others have a very hard time and our bodies need more help getting the junk out. We have learned by experience that for someone who has lots of toxins detoxing can be a slow process. However with slow and steady progress ou can get there. Your body was meant to be healthy, just give it the right help and your skin can thrive 😉

Can it be taken internally? And Would it be just as effective If taken internally? My college age daughter doesn’t have a bath her dorm.
Mariel,
Absolutely activated charcoal can be taken internally. Even though she may not have access to a bath, pills taken internally will do the same thing. Just drink plenty of water also!
Thank you. Will try tomorrow 😜
