Do you love herbs? These Olive Oil & Rosemary Sourdough Crackers are a tasty way to eat more herbs, especially rosemary.
My third child is like his mom and loves making things out of sourdough. Last year when he was 7 he asked if he could keep his own sourdough starter so could start making his own ideas about sourdough foods. He started making breadsticks around the house out of my normal sourdough pizza recipe.
One day he rolled them really thin and cooked them too long, and everyone loved them.
It was then sourdough crackers were born. And we have been coming up with different flavors ever since.
He is currently working on perfecting a cheese cracker recipe (but we will save that for a future post!)

Healthy Crackers
In my mom years, I have become more and more leery of snack foods mostly because they can almost never make them truly clean. From the preservatives like TBHQ that are connected to issues like ADHD, Asthma, Dermatitis, and more to the added flavors artificial and natural alike that are connected to a whole variety of health issues as well.
Knowing what is in our food but more importantly, what is not, is probably the best reason I have of why I make most of our foods and especially snack foods.
Sourdough Cracker Recipe
It may be because there are currently 5 kids running around my house with that always hungry appetite children usually have. These sourdough crackers are so popular in my house they are all eaten within minutes of leaving the oven.
These Olive Oil & Rosemary Sourdough Crackers are made with only a handful of ingredients and all of them real and healthy.

Olive Oil & Rosemary Sourdough Cracker Recipe
Ingredients
- 2. C. Sourdough Starter
- 1/3 C. Olive Oil
- 2 tsp. Salt
- 2 1/2 C. Flour
- 4 Tbsp. water
- 2 Tbsp. Dried Rosemary
- 1 Tbsp. Garlic Powder
- 1 Tbsp. Onion Powder
Instructions
- Combine sourdough starter, water, 4 Tbsp olive oil, and salt in a stand mixer with a dough hook or mix with a spoon.
- Add 1/2 cup of flour at a time until all the flour is evenly mixed in.
- Cover the bowl and let rest for 30 minutes or alternatively let it stand out on the countertop for 4-6 hours to ferment.
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees
- After you have let the dough rest flour a countertop kneed the dough dusting it with flour to make sure it’s not too sticky.
- Separate the dough into 4 equal parts.
- Taking one part of the dough roll it out into about a 14 inch circle. Transfer it to a baking sheet. Paint it with olive oil, then sprinkle it with the dried rosemary, garlic powder, and onion powder. Then take a pizza cutter and cut the dough into strips then across the other way to cracker size pieces. Do this to all four parts of the dough. This should make about 4 pizza pan-sized amounts of crackers.
- Alternatively, you can take the dough into about quarter size pieces and roll those into a cracker size and brush them with olive oil, sprinkle with garlic and onion powder and dried rosemary (this method takes longer but also makes prettier crackers).
- Bake for 12-14 minutes watching closely so they don’t cook past what you want.
- Let them cool completely break apart any crackers still stuck together.
- Enjoy.
