There is about every shade of brown going on outside right now. But I am saying enough! It’s time for some green again. Plenty of plants can do surprisingly well even in cold temperatures. Add an extra layer or two of protection and you will be very surprised at exactly what you can grow in the winter.⠀

The husband and I have a little bit of a “garden competition” started. Logically the deadest part of the year is where we decided to get this little garden-growing rivalry started.⠀

Its official! Today it's been 4 years since we took our homestead dreams and moved them from in a small city across the plains to the middle of (a very rural) central Kansas. Most people thought and still think we are crazy. ⠀
👩🏼‍🌾⠀
We were dead set on learning and discovering skills lost by our grandparents or even great-grandparents generations.⠀
✨⠀
Since then we expanded from a small flock of chickens and a small greenhouse garden, to so much more. Goats, gardens, fencing, the art of fermentation, food preservation, sourdough. The things we have learned in just 4 short years have been endless; but so are the dreams for where we still want to go.⠀

It's not some banker's job to look after our financial wellbeing, that's on us.⠀

It's not the job of some preacher, church, religious doctrine or belief system to tell me how to manage my soul, that's a job I was born for.⠀

And it most certainly not a school systems job to raise, educate, or to train the character of my kids as they walk through this world, that very important task is on us.⠀

I don't think we people are powerless. I think we willingly hand over our power, our decisions, our beliefs, our fears, our hopes, our future to someone who might be more "specialized". We people are powerful if we will decide to be!⠀
