Do you find yourself excessively tired? Even if you get plenty of sleep? Are you losing a lot of hair all the time? Does it seem you are gaining weight for no obvious reason? Are you abnormally craving sugary foods? Are you often angry or irritated for no real reason? Have you recently had a hormonal change? Maybe you are suffering from hypothyroidism and don’t even know it, or maybe you do. What if anything can you do? A lifetime of pills just can’t be the answer. So instead let’s talk about healing the thyroid naturally. Stick with me here and I will show you how I healed my thyroid and what you can do to help yours too.
First off let me start by saying I am not a doctor, nor do I pretend to be one. I am however a huge advocate of natural health. Hear me here, my goal is to share how I naturally healed my thyroid and got completely off synthetic thyroid hormone. I want you to know it is possible, if I did it, you can too!
My Hypothyroidism Story
My thyroid story started (or rather when I became aware) now several years ago (2012) when I was pregnant with my 3rd child. I think my thyroid was put under stress during the pregnancy and then after the birth, the huge hormonal change caused a thyroid crash. After the birth of my son, I had a birth control device implanted, against my better judgment.
When the middle of winter came, my baby was 3-4 months old and I was exhausted, angry a lot, irritable, gaining weight, craving sugary food, and generally unhappy. Of course, I was too tired to care. Showering, cooking, cleaning, and heck living became tasks that took too much effort. Something was wrong but I couldn’t figure out what.
I was a mess!
5 months after the birth I was fed up, I figured it was the birth control throwing off my hormones and it had to come out.
A visit to the doctor removed the implant and revealed through blood work my thyroid was way too low. They started me on a synthetic thyroid hormone, and I thought I would feel normal soon.
However, that was not so. Two months later I felt slightly better but nowhere near normal, I was depressed and angry. By the time my son was 11 months old my depression had hit as low as it could go, doctors started me on an anti-depressant and changed my thyroid medication to a name-brand version.
Fast forward to January 2015 my thyroid, energy, depression, and all that comes with it were manageable (at best) with thyroid medication. However, I felt broken. Forever changed. I have never got back the patience I once had with my children. My skin, my hair, and my weight and depression have had ups and downs but never fully recovered.
Then at the end of September 2014 I learned I was pregnant and was excited to expect child number 4.

At 10+ weeks of gestation, I miscarried. I began researching out of a broken heart. I have now lost 3 babies (1 to ectopic pregnancy, 1 miscarriage I never questioned, and then a second miscarriage post hypothyroid diagnosis).
My broken heart and loss have turned me to healing the thyroid naturally. And realizing how living a lifetime on synthetic hormones is not the answer. I feel we as humans were never intended to live a life on constant medications to stay semi-ok.
The Thyroid
The thyroid gland is part of the endocrine system and is very affected when other parts of the system are off. Low progesterone, and adrenal fatigue, low vitamins/ nutrients were my main contributing factors. Constant stress for years up to this point where my thyroid crashed, kept my adrenal glands depleted, and low B-vitamins and amino acids. I won’t go into all the science and research, other websites are better suited for that.

[…] Maca is an amazing food item, that many use as a supplement. Pregnant women of Peru have relied on it for 1000’s of years for healthy pregnancies! Helps regulate hormones. I have personally found it helps with energy during those sluggish pregnancy times, and it also helps me to not crave crazy unhealthy foods. Most cravings are our bodies seeking nutrition, red maca is packed with nutrition. This is the stuff I use.
